5 Life Skills To Teach Your Children By The Age Of 10

18/08/2020 by Adam

Introduction

Many parents are quite boastful when it comes to their kids knowing about technology or how to operate smartphones. They feel that if kids start using tabs and smartphones, they are automatically smart.

However, rather than being happy and boastful about kids using tech gadgets, it is important to teach your kids survival lessons. If you are able to teach your kids some essential life skills, it will help them overcome certain emergencies. It will also help them become independent and look after themselves if there is not anyone to help me.

Why is Teaching Life Skills important to young kids?

Many child counselors and renowned educationists point out that life skills help kids in a number of major ways. They point out that young kids can learn so much about focus, self-control, engaging in the right communication, and elevate their critical thinking.

Some point out those life skills also teach children about working together in a group, coordinating with others, teamworkand resource sharing. It also arouses sentiments of empathy, sharing, trust and brotherhood.

However, we feel that life skills are all about helping children know about challenging themselves. It shows the path you need to take if you are faced with an obstacle. In the following section, we will look at five life skills, which kids can learn and benefit from.

List of 5 Life Skills to teach your children by the age of 10 years

  1. Swimming-

If you teach your kids how to swim, they can not only learn about a critical life skill but also develop a healthy fitness avenue and routine. Swimming can help them calm down, improve their health and also be prepared in case of any emergencies. Many experts state that swimming lessons for Kids from Swimhub are the best way to learn the life skill of swimming.

  1. Bicycle-

Knowing how to ride a bicycle is not only an incredibly fun area, it can also impart a sense of freedom and adventure. Bicycling is incredibly healthy and can improve fitness, stamina and high levels of energy. Learning how to ride a bicycle is often the foundation of learning a motorcycle. Maintaining balance on a bicycle is akin to balancing your life.

  1. First Aid-

In the last few years, many schools all over the USA and Europe have started educating kids about the importance of first aid. This can include first aid administration during burns, routine CPR, M2M resuscitation, cleaning wounds, bandaging injuries and so on. This can be very useful if there are some untoward accidents and children are called upon to help save someone.

  1. Planting-

Even though their parents and grandparents have destroyed the environment and added to climate change and global warming, kids are being called upon to save it. This is why it is essential that you should teach your kids about the importance of trees and show them how to plant them. The more trees which are planted, the better will be the environment.

  1. Cooking-

Your kid does not have to be a participant on MasterChef to know the basics of cooking a simple meal. Ideally, parents can start teaching them about basic cooking during camping trips and hiking adventures. Cooking is a survival skill and kids should know about the basics like boiling eggs, rice and other basics. This will ensure that they are able to fend for themselves and not starve.

The Final Word

Kids who know basic life skills are more confident than their counterparts who do not have much idea about the same. If you want to rear the right individual for society, it is integral that you teach them the above-mentioned life skills. It does not matter if you are a first-time parent or not. This will add to their personality and make them responsible members of society.
