Superfoods To Get Your Health Buzz On!

06/06/2019 by Adam

If you’re into clean-eating you’ll likely have been getting all hyped up following the rise of the superfood! For those who aren’t already a superfoodie know it all; they are essentially foods that are nutrient rich and thus very beneficial for our health. Superfoods are largely plant-based, but some types of fish and dairy make the cut too. These foods have ample benefits to offer such as containing fibers which are often considered to help with digestive issues, healthy fats to ward off heart disease and antioxidants which are widely believed to prevent diseases like cancer.

Examples of commonly eaten superfoods include kale, blueberries or salmon. Let’s take a look at some of the other current superfoods that are gaining popularity in the clean-living world.

Chia Seeds

These seeds come from a plant called Salvia hispanica, they contain all sorts of things that are great for your body: fiber and protein; fat and calcium; phosphorus and magnesium. Chia seeds are loaded with antioxidants and high in Omega-3 Fatty acids too. They are very easy to get into your diet because they can be added to pretty much anything from rice dices and vegetables to yogurts and smoothies, just sprinkle them on raw and your good to go.

Acai

The acai berry is native to the rainforests of South America; these fruits are small are made up almost entirely of their seed. Like Chia seeds, they are also antioxidant rich and also have anti-inflammatory effects too. These berries are loaded with fatty acids such as palmitic and oleic. They are very sweet and delicious in flavor and very simple to add to a fruit salad bowl, porridge or cereal to get your morning acai fix. (Note, it’s pronounced ‘ah-sigh-ee’ – to save you winding up looking silly in front of your superfoodie pals.)

Moringa

Moringa is a plant that also goes by the name of the miracle tree or the drumstick tree. It is native to India, yet it has also been found growing in South America, Asia, and Africa too. For centuries moringa has been praised for its vast health benefits from anti-inflammatory to antiviral. It possesses vitamin A, iron, zinc, calcium, and much more! It is believed to protect the liver, treat stomach problems and, again, prevent cancer. On top of all this, it’s even been thought as helpful to combat depression. You can have a look at kuli kuli if you wish to find out more about moringa.

Cassava

Cassava is a root vegetable that originates from Brazil and also grows around the tropical areas of America. This one is said to be fantastic for healthy skin and hair as well as being excellent for the digestive system due to its fiber content. It also contains calcium while its leaves are full of protein and carotene. You can consume the cassava much like you would a potato by boiling, steaming or baking.

There are so many more superfoods out there for you to discover and start reaping the feel-good benefits, it’s all about just doing a tad bit of homework and seeing what’s out there to get your healthy buzz on!
