Success This Winter

19/11/2014 by Adam

Many people overlook the importance of Winter when it comes to reaching their health and fitness goals. I think it’s because clever marketing has, over the years, allowed them to believe that in ‘8 weeks’ or ‘2 months’ they can have that ‘perfect body’ so time isn’t an important factor. They think that it’s the relaxing/indulging season and that they’ll ‘start properly in January’.

Sound familiar? You’re not the only one. There are millions of people who take it easy during the cold, wet months and, once upon a time, I’d be up there with them. There’s a great saying in the fitness community, “Abs are built in the Winter” – and this could not be more true. It’s the season in which you set the foundations to what you will look like in the Summer.

From September to January last year, I lost 3% in body fat which helped set the perfect foundation for the start of the year. Yes it’s the season to be merry and joyous (which I certainly approve of) but remember, the decisions you make at this point will affect where you go from January, so have fun but set some limitations in terms of what you’re eating & drinking, don’t give yourself a mountain to climb.

Now is the perfect time to set some goals over the festive period. Think about:-

– How many times you will attend the gym?
– What dates will you be there?
– What will you do at the gym?
– How will you motivate yourself whilst you’re there?
– What could stop you from attending?

The more organised you are when it comes to your goals, the more likely you are to reach them. So create a plan, work at it and have that absolute belief you will reach that desired destination and stay on track during the festive period. Good luck.
