Strawberry & Lime-Flavoured Water

03/10/2014 by Adam

strawberry and lime water

I know it’s heading towards the windy, cold and wet season and perhaps I should be posting all recipes that warm the chest (and belly!) as they’d be much more appropriate right now, however we all need a refreshing drink every so often (as well as a hot one!).

Most people would go for fresh juice, which is fine once in a while, however even a typical serving is packed full of sugar. When I first started looking healthier and losing the extra pounds, this was one of the changes I decided to make.To go from fruit juice every morning to water helped me to greatly reduce my daily sugar intake. It did get a little boring though, so I started experimenting with flavoured waters and some worked better than others!

Once you get into the hang of making your own flavoured waters, you’ll benefit from the health benefits it brings (as well as it being good for your wallet!).

The longer the fruit is left inside the jug, the more concentrated (and generally colourful!) the water becomes. So enjoy this healthier alternative to fruit juice and concentrated juice, it’s easy and can be made in a few minutes.

Also, once you’ve used the water in the jug, the fruit will usually still be flavourful enough to use again for a top-up!

strawberry and lime water (side on)

– Ingredients

2 x Limes (quartered)
6 x Strawberries (halved)
Ice (Cubed or Crushed)

– Method

1. Quarter one of the limes and squeeze each quarter into the jug.

2. Half 3 of the strawberries and add to the jug

3. Using a pestle or the back of a spoon, lightly crush the fruit.

4. Add a large handful of ice.

5. Half the remaining strawberries and add them, along with the remaining lime segments, to the jug.
