Stop reading and start working out

01/10/2020 by Adam

We’ve all been there. At one point, you’re filled with energy and motivation, you’re browsing websites and looking up suitable fitness programs. You’ve already figured out a meal plan for the next month and now you’re looking for all the necessary gear and outfit that will lead you to greatness. After a couple of days of extensive reading and research, you now know all the pros and cons of different exercises and are knowledgeable enough to make your own workout plan. All it takes is to go to the gym, get a membership, and start your training.

However, that’s when things take another direction. Instead of getting up earlier and making the best out of your free time, you might’ve stayed up a bit longer the night before, playing those JerkDolls games, and postponed your visit to the gym for a day. After all, starting a day later can’t do much harm, right? Then the next day comes and you end up busy with another thing, or you get tired and just want to relax on the couch, watching TV. A friend comes by or you suddenly remember something important that must be finished at that instant. And, before you realized what was happening, days went by, your motivation is gone, and you haven’t made a single step towards your fitness goal.

That is the point of this article. Of course, there is nothing wrong with educating yourself on as much related to health and fitness as you can. In particular, if you plan on doing more demanding exercises or lifting heavy weights, it’s a must to know what you’re doing. The best practice is to have someone help you out in the beginning. Whether you take a knowledgeable friend with you, hire a personal trainer, or simply ask for advice just as you work out in the gym, you might save yourself a lot of headaches and a ton of potential injuries down the road by knowing what you’re doing. So, as you can see, there’s far from anything bad when it comes to reading and research regarding your gym life.

Where things do tend to get troublesome is when you get so focused on studying and planning that you end up postponing the actual work so much you eventually end up discouraged. Aiming for perfection is a good thing but when done in moderation. Instead of spending hours upon hours figuring stuff out take a short break, play some free adult games, and then start doing the heavy lifting; literally and figuratively. It takes a while to create a habit but once you manage to do that you’re all set. Use the time when your motivation is at its peak to start something that will change your life for the good. Then, after a while, even if you end up not feeling like going to the gym one day, you’ll power through and become a proper fitness buff before you know it.
