How to Stick to Your Gym Routine

For many people, the beginning of the year means setting themselves goals or resolutions for the new year. It is especially true if you have had a high-calorie holiday period and you are looking to shift a little weight. Unfortunately, as much as you try, sometimes these goals start to become more difficult to stick with and you might find yourself slipping. Here are some tips for sticking to your new year gym routine.

Do Something You Enjoy

It might sound obvious, but if you are doing something you enjoy doing, it won’t seem so much of a chore after the first month. When you go to the gym, take a look at the exercise classes and the gym equipment and try them all out. You won’t know what you like until you give them all a try, and you might surprise yourself. If you do find something you like, then you should do that activity for at least a few minutes each time you go. For example, if you like the rowing machines such as those on workoutbox.com then use them for a while when you are there. It could be a good way to finish a gym session on something you love doing.

Make it a Habit

Another issue that people have is trying to fit it into their schedule. They think that they can fit it in here and there and it won’t matter. The problem is that if you don’t make it a habit, you won’t remember or get the feeling of looking forward to doing it. It is best to do at least some exercise or activity at least three times per week; this level will get you fit and help you lose weight. Pick a regular time in your schedule and write it in, so you aren’t tempted to do something else instead.

Choose a Convenient Location

If you are choosing a gym, then it needs to be somewhere that is easy and convenient to get to, if it is too far away, then you won’t have the enthusiasm to get there, and it will be one more reason not to go. Ideally, it should be one that you can get there by walking or cycling. Not only will you be able to go even if you don’t have a car but getting there and back will also add to your exercise regime.

Pick an Accountability Partner

An accountability partner is someone that you must speak to if you start to give up on your fitness regime. Although it might not seem like much, if you must call someone every time you don’t go, it might just give you a little extra incentive. The best type of accountability partner is a gym buddy. Choose someone that has similar likes to you in the gym and arrange to pick them up or vice versa.

If you do these few simple things, you will soon be keeping a routine at the gym and getting the results, you want.
