[REVIEW] Veeno, Liverpool – Wine-Tasting!

10/10/2017 by Adam

Through my blog I’ve had the pleasure of taking part in many exciting experiences involving food and drink, yet there was a particular experience I’d never tried and always wanted to. On Saturday night I was given that opportunity to go wine-tasting at Veeno in Liverpool.

First let me tell you a little about Veeno.

It first started with two Italian guys who shared a passion for relaxing with drinks and nibbles after a long day at work. Soon this evolved to include their friends and family and before long they opened Veeno – a place to enjoy great wine and various platters of meats, cheeses and other appetisers known as ‘Spuntini’.

This experience was shared on Saturday evening between me and my partner who were invited to try out a fine selection of wines and nibbles that had been carefully selected and paired together.

We were given a very warm welcome as we arrived to the venue. This was great as often you find on a Saturday night that staff are so rushed off their feet they forget the small, but still important parts of hospitality.

We were immediately taken over to our reserved table and seated by our host and wine-expert for the evening, Steven.

After being given a few minutes to settle in and enjoy our Prosecco (which tasted excellent) the host brought over a beautifully presented platter, at this stage just to observe, despite the temptation to tuck-in right away!

The atmosphere was excellent although there were a few occasions that we couldn’t hear what our host was saying due to the busy table in front of us and another host who was definitely on the louder side!

Veeno offer three various options for their Wine-tasting, their ‘Classic’ option, the ‘Blind’ option and the ‘Selezione’ wine-tasting experience. The Selezione option was what we experienced and was made up of some more of their premium wines.

I won’t go into too much detail on the individual wines and what spuntini they were paired with. What I will tell you is that our host Steven was an expert in his knowledge of the wines on offer. He gave us plenty of interesting knowledge of these wines and got us involved in guessing what key ingredients were present.

This made the experience not only interesting but also exciting, and on a Saturday night after a long hard week of work, that’s what it’s all about!

We were well-looked after by our host and after each wine and food-combination pairing, we were given some time before Steven returned. I think this is important and Veeno got it spot-on. Despite it being a paid-for experience to learn more about the wines, it was still a date night for us and we were given enough time by ourselves to embrace the atmosphere and enjoy what was in front of us.

To top off the evening we were given a large slice of Tiramisu that was paired with this delicious sweet wine, and then of course a Limoncello shot to finish the evening nicely!

Conclusions

Despite living in and around Liverpool for the best part of 10 years, I wasn’t aware of any places that did proper wine-tasting. I felt they’ve really captured the market not just from the way in which they carried out this experience for us, but also the history behind Veeno and the vineyards that were connected to it.

Overall it was a unique and very much enjoyable experience that really made our Saturday night special. Steven was excellent and we couldn’t have asked for a more friendly, knowledgeable host to guide us through the experience.

I would certainly recommend this experience to anyone who’s thinking about it, just ensure it’s Veeno that you choose for it!
