REVIEW: USN Whey Protein Premium

20/02/2016 by Adam

From the period between December and January I made the decision not to continue buying Whey Protein and instead to take a break before deciding if this would be a permanent move or not.

Why you might ask?

The protein I was getting was around £45 per month and in all honesty I had other things in my life that took more priority. So when the opportunity came about to test and review USN’s protein, I felt it was a great chance to re-introduce myself to why I was bothering in the first place.

The results would either be positive, and I wouldn’t go through any further breaks without it, or it would confirm my suspicions that I can incorporate the right amount of protein, naturally into my diet.

USN Whey Protein

Here were the results..

As you may or may not be aware, protein in whichever form you choose to take it in, supports muscle recovery and growth and ensures that your body is at it’s highest capacity to help reach it’s goals and best performance.

This product did just that.

The Taste

After trying a number of protein powders and ready shakes in the past, I have always been very conscious of the taste. Believe me, I’ve tried some truly dreadful ones!

USN’s version was by far the best tasting so far.

I chose the Chocolate flavour, although there were 5 other choices available from Strawberry, Banana, Raspberry Smoothie, even Cinnamon Bun! These choices are important because going through at least one a month you can quickly end up getting bored of the same drink, day in day out and USN offer a good variety for when it’s time to try something different.

The second element I was conscious of was how it smelt to those around me!

This may sound like an obscure type of requirement for a Protein drink, however from past experience with a different provider, I was told numerous times how I smelt of ‘wet swimming trunks’ amongst other things!

It may seem funny at first but quickly makes you want to switch to something far less offensive.

So far this product has offered no such comments, which meant as the taste was so damn good, could become a permanent replacement to my previous protein supplier. All that mattered now was how it actually worked towards my personal fitness goals.

Performance & Goals

My goals are to bulk up, but to also ensure that after every gym session when I’ve worked extremely hard and can barely walk or lift an arm the following day, that I can see the changes lasting.

This was something I felt was lacking when I stopped consuming protein, I’d go to the gym, come home and three days later I hardly noticed any change from that first day. I can honestly say that I’m now beginning to see the results once again after using the USN Whey Protein Premium and it puts my reservations to bed about getting enough protein from my diet alone.

Yes I could consume a lot more through additional meals that I prepare myself, but I’m a busy person so the convenience of preparing a quick shake far outweighs these reservations and is worth it.

It’s one scoop, about 150ml water, mix and ready.

I usually end up having about half after my workout, then take the rest to work with me and have it after lunch. Thankfully it doesn’t immediately go off or change in taste after being left for numerous hours after the initial mix. It really is a quality product and it’s no wonder there’s such a high demand for it.

If I had to say anything negative about the product it’s probably the same comment that affects almost all protein tubs which is when it arrived the scoop was buried towards the very bottom of the tub! This wasn’t so much a problem for me as I always keep the previous tub’s scoop just in case (top tip for the day!).

Conclusion

It’s always a pleasure being able to test great products (I’ve had my share of poorer ones trust me!) but this is a class act that really highlights the quality of ingredients.

It tastes great, it’s durable and it will help you reach your fitness goals in an easy and convenient manner.
