Losing Weight – The Shopping List (pt. 2)

21/09/2014 by Adam

When I finally realised it was time to make some more positive choices at the supermarket, I started to let my mind wonder onto what foods are acceptable and what is hindering my chances of losing the weight I desire. So I began making lists. This is maybe an OCD thing of mine but I love being organised in my life and for me, to-do-lists, reference lists etc are the way to achieve this.

One list I devised was called ‘Healthier Choices’. It assessed my own lifestyle in an honest and objective way, which is the key if you’re going to achieve any goal you’ve set out to. If you can’t be realistic in an evaluation of how far you’ve come or still need to go, then your progress is hindered by you alone.

It kept things simple and was added to over a period of time. When I thought about one aspect of my lifestlye that I hadn’t previously assessed, I stopped what I was doing at that time and wrote down what needed to be added. The list itself isn’t finished (and maybe never will be) but by making the changes I followed, not only will you lose the weight, you will feel healthier and have so much more energy than you used to, here it is:-

Healthy Choices

– Flavoured Water not Fruit Juice
– Limited Alcohol compared to Heavy Sessions
– More Rice & Vegetables less Chips
– Sweet Potatoes not Roast Potatoes
– Home Cooking much less Fast Food
– Salads@Lunch not Hot Dinners
– Thinking Smarter @ Supermarket
– Fruit Snacks instead of Crisps & Chocolate
– Always Asking: “Is This Economical?” & “Is This Healthy?”
– Eating Slower

– Wholemeal Bread not White
– Limit Hot Chocolate to 2 per week

As I’ve said, the list is not exclusive or finished but it’s a start in the direction you may need to think about going. Ultimately it is your own responsibility and you have to ask yourself the question “how badly do you want this?” Start thinking about your own life objectively and monitor everything you consume and when. Make the healthier choices I’ve listed above and add your own.

This won’t happen overnight but I guarantee it will happen if you follow the right choices.
