Looking After Your Mind and Body in 2019: A Guide

22/01/2019 by Adam

You only get one body in your lifetime, so taking the best care of it iscrucial. You have to live in and with this body for the next couple of decades, so you want to make it a comfortable experience for bothof you!

Luckily, there are only but a few ways to do that, andthe primary one is embracing healthy living. Itmay sound easy on paper, but the reality is that it’s a struggle for many. However, just because it’s a struggle, that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to achieve. It may justtake a lot more effort than you’d like!

On that note, here are a few ways to look after your mind and body in 2019.

Stick to a Balanced Diet

A good diet is a crucial part of looking after your mind and body, so try and commit to doing that in the new year. Instead of going to the extreme and throwing out all of the junk food in your home, take it a step at a time and set long-term goals instead. Here are a few quick and easy to remember tips:

  • Base meals on starchy foods: When thinking about meal ideas, always remember to base them on starchy foods. In a balanced diet, this would include foods such as potatoes, rice, bread or pasta.
  • Try dairy alternatives: Dairy often features in most people’s diet and if you’re one of them, explore your options. Itcould mean trying almond milk or soya instead of full-fatmilk.
  • Eat plenty of proteins: Proteins should also feature in a healthy diet, so think along the lines of fish, chicken, eggs, meat, and

Manage Conditions

If you happen to have any health conditions, no matter how minor they may seem tobe, try and manage them the best that you can. If not, they could become progressively worse and result in a domino effect of other health challenges. It’s also important that your GP provides proper care for your condition too. If, for instance, you have diabetes and they failed to provide appropriatediabetic care, in a worst-casescenario, it could end in you filing a legal claim for amputation as a result of a lost foot.

Be Fully Present

It is easy to zoom through life without actually being present in every moment. Thismay especially be true for people who lead busy lives and can’t seem to find a moment to stop and take in the world around them. Try and practice being fully present by stoppingand remembering that you can’t relive any moment twice. Take deep breaths, be more conscious and take time out to be grateful for the good things that you have.

Reduce Your Stress levels

Following on from the point about mindfulness, find somewhere to release all of your stress this coming year. Seeing as stress is inevitable for most people, find ways to ensure it doesn’t drown you as that can be bad news for your health. Fitness is a good outlet as it enables you to release energy physicallyand, in many ways, relaxes your body and rids you of tension.
