I am so glad I was able to attend the 2014 Food & Drink Festival in Liverpool. This was the second time we’d visited the festival at Sefton Park and each year it seems to get bigger and bigger. We arrived at around 12pm and managed to get through with almost no queuing (always a bonus!).
As soon as we got in, we were greeted by these fluroscent orange promotional people that were determined to give us a large orange bag with an even brighter ruler inside. Normally I’d turn down these sorts of things however I had brought a jacket just in-case and it was even hotter than I expected so in went the jacket!
The event really was a celebration of food and drink. Almost every type of cuisine was represented in some way or another and almost all of the restaurants in the area attended with their outdoor, customised menus. One of the few issues was that there really was too much choice on where to have some lunch, although we were given so many free samples of everything from Italian sweet biscuits to sweet chilli popcorn, it wasn’t difficult to fill up!
Anna recognised two of the contestants from the ‘My Kitchen Rules’ television show and we spoke with them for a while, insisting they deserved to go further in the competition and that it was all a bit tactical (which I think they appreciated!).
We left the event around 3pm, very full and sampled-out! As we were leaving, the queues to enter the event were very long! We had definitely come at the right time.
The whole event was a celebration of all things food and was very well organised. I feel that going forward the event will continue to expand with even more representation of the wonderful restaurants and cuisine that Liverpool has to offer.
