Learning To Appreciate and Include More Vegetables in Your Diet

12/02/2022 by Adam

There are far too many people in the country that show almost no respect to the vegetables in their diet! Many people see it as a necessary item in order to balance meals, but so few people truly appreciate vegetables and the dishes that they can be turned into. So instead of doing something boring like steaming broccoli or wilting spinach, here are a couple of plant-based diet tips that will encourage you to fall in love with vegetables and their many uses.

Vegetables can taste good–it just depends on how you cook and season them

One of the biggest misconceptions about vegetables is that they’re tasteless and bland. This can be true for old frozen vegetables that you’re simply steaming and sprinkling a bit of salt on. Even then, adding a bit more seasoning to something like a steamed vegetable can make it ten times better, but these old and boring methods of preparing vegetables can be shaken up with the right approach.

For example, why not consider trying a dal tadka recipe that blends lots of different spices together to create a beautiful base that tastes delicious with vegetables? It’s packed full of nutrients, it tastes wonderful, and it can be paired with many different carbs. There’s a world of flavour for you to unlock if you start using more vegetables in your cooking and stop looking at pre-packaged sauces or boring preparation and cooking methods.

They can be a surprisingly good replacement for meat

There are actually a number of dishes where vegetables can serve as a viable replacement for meat. For example, you can try jackfruit tacos, falafel instead of meatballs, or even large mushrooms for a tasty and chewy bite to certain meals. Far too many people look towards meat substitutes that try to imitate things like chicken or lamb.

While those products are tasty in their own way and will always have a space in our freezers, there’s just something about appreciating the tastes and textures that mother nature provides us. It’s pure clean food that is extremely good for your body and can help you balance your portions so you’re eating more vegetables than other food groups.

Buying fresh can really change your mind about vegetables

Vegetables can be expensive, especially if you’re going to a market and want them fresh and plump. This is why many people decide to buy frozen vegetables instead. It’s cheaper, easier to cook and prepare, and you can store them in your freezer without worrying about them going off. Unfortunately, this is why many people dislike eating vegetables–they just haven’t tried them fresh yet!

If you’re really looking to change your mind about vegetables, then we urge you to start buying them fresh from local supermarkets and preparing them yourself. Frozen vegetables may give you most of the nutrients that vegetables can offer, but you’re missing out on all of the delicious flavours and textures that are lost when you steam something from frozen.
