How to Have a Healthy Brunch

18/10/2018 by Adam

There is no better meal than brunch in my opinion. It gives you a chance to have a bit of a lie in, get dressed up and even build an appetite so you’re ready to devour the delicious food prepared by one of the restaurants that specialise in brunch Lynchburg based or similar. As the popularity of brunch increases, more restaurants are beginning to open their doors earlier and create a mouth-watering brunch menu to entice people in. One new trend that seems to be gaining momentum is bottomless mimosas which is definitely a hit with many people, but can also not be the healthiest option.

So the next time you have a trendy brunch in NYC, whether at home or in a fancy restaurant, be more conscious of what you are eating. I hate to ruin the fun, but a lot of the items in a brunch menu are loaded with unhealthy fats. Not to mention, the mimosas can make things worse! That being said, if you want to enjoy a healthy and delicious brunch, keep on reading and learn from some of the tips I will share below.

Order a Salad

One of the secrets to having a filling brunch meal without the guilt is to start with a salad. This can make you easily full, lessening the likelihood that you will be overeating when it is time for the mains. For the best brunch salads, check out Scarpetta, my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Their roasted beet salad and cauliflower Romanesco are some of the best from their brunch menu. They are loaded with fresh veggies that can minimize the craving for unhealthy food.

Tone Down on the Carbs

According to U.S. News, carbohydrate can cause the blood sugar to spike and can contribute to weight gain. From pancakes to bread, brunches are known for being abundant with carb choices. To be healthier, top your pancakes with fresh fruits and use healthier spreads for the bread. When you order a high-carb meal, balance it out with those that are high in protein and healthy fat. Better yet, share your order with a friend!

Drink Wisely

A brunch is not complete without the drinks, especially cocktails. Bloody Mary and mimosa are two of the cocktails that are commonly served in brunch. They are refreshing, but they can also be unhealthy. You can easily go overboard with these drinks and not realize it. As much as possible, avoid brunches with unlimited drinks. If you are hosting brunch at home, use healthier ingredients when making the drinks.

Watch Out for the Eggs

No brunch will be complete without the eggs. It can be prepared in several ways! Nonetheless, not all cooking methods can be good for your health. With this, if you want a healthy brunch, pay attention to the way the eggs are cooked. If they are fried, the right choice of oil can make a huge difference. Hard-boiled eggs and poached eggs will be great. For the filling, choose veggies or lean meats.

Skip the Sweets

Sweet treats are a big part of brunch. Whether it is for pancake toppings or desserts, they can complete a meal! However, they can also be the reason why brunch takes a toll on your health. If you have to eat sweets, focus on fresh fruits. For pancake syrups, natural honey is best compared to syrups that are filled with artificial sweeteners. Even for the drinks, avoid those with high sugar, including brunch cocktails.

Take note of the things that have been mentioned above and you can enjoy a delicious brunch without the guilt!
