How to choose a fitness tracker

15/05/2020 by Adam

A fitness bracelet is not a basic necessities, but if you want something to encourage you to do new things all the time in terms of training or to get information about the results, this small gadget becomes useful. You just need to find a device that will sit comfortably on your hand and have the necessary characteristics.

What are the characteristics of the bracelet

A small wearable device should be selected based on the following basic characteristics:

price

functionalities

appearance, type of housing

compatibility with mobile operating systems

convenience of the software for smartphone/tablet, possibility to use statistics in third-party applications

availability of moisture protection, comfort of wearing

electronic filling, type and characteristics of the screen

operating time without recharging

additional functions.

Choosing a fitness bracelet, you should understand that the price is not always an indicator of complexity, reliability and functional saturation of the gadget. As in the segment of smartphones, a big role in the price plays a brand and its promotion. The market is being actively attacked by inexpensive models of growing manufacturers, whose brands have not yet been picked up. In this case, they offer solutions that are not inferior in functionality to more expensive devices.

Functionality

A fitness bracelet is usually purchased to perform the following functions:

to accurately record the owner’s physical activity;

monitoring heart function;

use as a smart alarm clock.

There are also additional functions that developers implement in such devices, such as receiving notifications of messages and calls to your smartphone.

Compatibility with and interaction with mobile devices

The fitness tracker, by virtue of its functions and the way it is used, is at best equipped with a small screen that displays a minimum of information. In addition, there are a significant number of such devices, which in principle do not have a screen. Therefore, it is important not only to buy the device you like visually, at a price and functions, but also to choose a model that can interact with your smartphone or tablet.

Appearance of devices, protection level, design and battery life

In appearance gadgets usually look like a bracelet, which has a small block, visually similar to an electronic clock round or rectangular shape. There are also devices that have such a unit outwardly imperceptible, as everything is made with a single case and strap. Jawbone, for example, often does this.

Manufacturers offer devices in different colors. In addition to the classic black and white, there are blue, yellow, green and other devices.  Bracelets are also often equipped with interchangeable straps. You can wear the device with a black strap for work and with a bright acid for jogging.

The screen can be LED, electronic ink E-ink, LCD or OLED – matrix. There are models with touch screens, pushbutton control or no buttons at all. Screen type directly affects the battery life. Devices without a screen or with a minimum consumption matrix can operate for at least a week. The larger the screen on the bracelet, the more often you have to charge it. Some devices with a large screen and wide functionality have to be charged after 3-5 days.
