Healthy Foods to Eat For A Healthier and Stress-Free Hair

20/10/2017 by Adam

Hair, they say, is the crown you never take off. Well, for a long time, our society has set standards for beauty by judging on our physical appearances.

Our hair plays a major part in how we look, thus the unending quest for a great looking hair was embraced by generations even from the time of Cleopatra to date. From hair extensions and wigs to using natural ingredients and professional hair products, for example, there are many ways that people can help get their hair looking its best.

This provided a huge gap between different industries and businesses to develop a “promising product” to solve hair problems such as hair loss or male pattern baldness, increasing hair volume, problems with dandruff, and etc.

But, what’s the secret to having that great-looking shiny and full bouncy mane that we all desire?

Well, it’s simpler than you could ever imagine. The secret to having healthy hair is all in what you eat. How? Here are some of the things that you need to eat in order to achieve your wish to have that healthy hair:

  1. Citrus fruits– lemons, oranges, and tangerines are rich in vitamin C, these fruits could prove to be of service to you.

Vitamin C promotes the absorption of iron into the body hence aid in producing red blood cells that carry oxygen around your body to allow proper circulation.

It also prevents hair from becoming brittle and thus prevents hair breakage. Another vitamin C rich fruit is the guava; this fruit is also a good source of vitamin C and packed with at least five times the number of vitamin C compared to citrus fruits.

It was also reported that Vitamin B12 in tangerines can help in delaying the graying process of the hair, and also promotes growth thus preventing hair loss.

  1. Spinach– this vegetable contains sebum, a natural conditioner for hair. Spinach is also rich in iron, omega 3 fatty acids, and calcium; which when all combined gives you a boost in your hair that makes it lustrous and shiny.
  2. Eggs– although eggs have always been castigated for their high cholesterol content, eggs actually have numerous benefits to your hair and body.

They contain vitamin B which aids in hair growth, in turn, giving strength to your hair strands and minimize hair breakage.

  1. Cinnamon– traditionally used as a herb and an aromatic spice is packaged with a lot of nutrients that are essential for a healthier hair.

Cinnamon helps in blood circulation and transfer Oxygen to the scalp and into the hair follicles. So next time you make that toast or salad be sure to sprinkle some cinnamon on it.

  1. Oatmeal– a very important breakfast meal that is rich in fiber, zinc, and omega 3 fatty acids and iron, stimulate hair growth, gives volume and shine to your hair.
  2. Salmon– Salmon and other cold-water fish like sardines and mackerel also contain vitamin D and omega 3 that help in hair growth and healthier scalp.
  3. Sweet potatoes– packed with beta-carotene, sweet potatoes stimulate the glands to produce sebum. Sebum is essential to protect your hair against dryness. You could also consider eating other beta-carotene rich foods like carrots, cantaloupe, mangoes, and pumpkins.
  4. Nuts and seeds– they are rich in healthy oils that add elastin to the hair. Cashew nuts are rich in biotin (vitamin B), while walnuts contain healthy oils good for the hair and pistachios can prevent male baldness.
  5. Lean poultry– apart from their awesome taste, chicken, fish, pork loins and grass-fed poultry are a good source of dietary protein that helps prevent hair from thinning and falling off.
  6. Barley– Vitamin E found in barley absorbs ultraviolet light on the skin and scalp preventing damage to the hair that would be caused by these harmful rays.
  7. Beef-beef is rich in zinc and other foods like oysters, crab, and lobsters prevent hair loss and other parts of the body including the eyelashes.
  8. Antioxidants -for a dandruff free hair, it is advisable to include foods rich in antioxidants in your diet. Oxidation often occurs when certain oxygenated molecules move freely around the body because of poor nutrition, body toxins and other factors that may lead to premature aging. This would, in turn, cause the scalp dry and flake.

Foods rich in antioxidants include dark chocolates, elderberries, kidney beans, cilantro, red apples, and plums. For more information on how to resolve your dandruff problem, click here.
