(GUEST) 6 Super foods You Should Be Eating Right Now

03/08/2016 by Adam

It has been repeated enough times that we are what we eat. Food is fuel for the body, and it is imperative that you feed your body with clean foods that are beneficial. Here are foods that you should consider including in your daily diet:

6 Super foods You Should Be Eating Right Now

  1. Berries

Berries have plenty of benefits. All types of berries have fiber, which works wonders for the digestive system. They are also a variety of vitamins which are good for the skin. Besides fiber, Blueberries have anthocyanins, an antioxidant which keeps the memory sharp as you age. Raspberries contain a compound known as ellagic acid, which has anti-cancer properties. Acai berries contain antioxidants that slow down the aging and wrinkling of the skin. These anti-oxidants may even help prevent macular degeneration in aging eyes which is one of the most common causes of vision loss in aging individuals. It can be a difficult condition to live with so if you do develop it, it’s best to get help from a specialist like Alyssa Hoehn MD.
They also contain omega 3 and 6 which are good for the eyes, stabilize blood pressure and keep the level of bad cholesterol low. You can eat them as they are or add them to your bowl of cereals. They make tasty smoothies too.

  1. Baobab

This super food has been used for centuries to treat malaria and fever in Africa. It contains more vitamin C than an orange. Vitamin C is a super nutrient in the body. Apart from protecting the eyes from cataracts, it provides you with extra energy during a workout. You can take it as a pre-workout snack to boost energy levels and improve endurance before a workout. Vitamin C is also an active ingredient that helps aid the body’s ability to form elastin and collagen, two proteins that improve the skin’s elasticity and keep wrinkles at bay.

  1. Barley Grass

Most of us think beer when the word ‘barley’ comes up. Barley grass which sprouts from the barley plant is loaded with nutrients. It has vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, C, E, and K. These vitamins play various important roles in the body including improving eyesight, repairing the skin and hair. Barley grass also contains zinc, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, calcium, and potassium. You can include it to your smoothies and juices in its powder form for great results.

  1. Sweet Potatoes

This fantastic super food is rich in potassium, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. It is not only sweet but also chocked with healthy goodness. It is versatile enough to make in several ways. You can mash it, boil it, grilled it, and even fry it. Sweet potatoes have several known benefits to the body. Apart from providing fiber that helps in digestion, the nutrients available in sweet potatoes give you a healthy liver, good eyesight, healthy hair, and glowing skin.

  1. Oily Fish

Fish is an excellent source of protein, which is a body building food. Apart from the muscles that define your body shape, oily fish such as salmon contain omega 3 fatty acids, which are heart-friendly. The oil reduces the levels of cholesterol in your body to give you a healthy heart that won’t quit on you. It also improves your eyesight.

  1. Black Beans

This humble legume is a super food loaded with benefits. Black beans contain zinc and vitamins that enhance your ability to see even in old age. They also contain fiber that keeps you fuller for longer, hence keeping you away from those calorie-filled snacks. They contain flavonoid compounds which have antioxidant qualities. The readily available and reasonably priced super food is ideal for your health.

Even though most of the food items listed above are sourced from faraway lands, they are readily accessible in local stores. They are great additions to your daily routine. You can incorporate most of them into your diet by adding them to your porridge, smoothies, and juices.
