After an entire month of having my life up in the air, what with trying to find a new place to live, having a big birthday and travelling to Edinburgh, I am finally back in a more settled environment with a brand new gym to try out to help me reach my goals and get me back on track.
The timing of trying out GoNutrition.com’s pre-workout formula ‘Workout Fuel‘ has been perfect as I really needed some kind of boost to help return my body to the workout momentum it has grown accustomed to.
In the past the only pre-workout formula I have trialled has been pure Creatine Monohydrate, however that resulted in headaches and feeling nauseous, and was therefore stopped quite abruptly.
Although there was some slight hesitancy to see if this would be any different, I thought to myself ‘the only way to really see change is to make a change’ and so I jumped into this trial.
So what is it exactly?
In the most non-scientific terms possible, it’s a formula that comes in powder form and once you add water, becomes a pre-workout shake that’s designed to help you achieve optimal performance during your workout.
GoNutrition offer the product in two flavours: Cola Charge & Cherry Burst – I chose the former as I love the taste and smell of Cola and there’s nothing worse than consuming something every day when you’re not fond of the taste!
So about half an hour prior to heading towards the gym I made up the shake and started using it.
The smell as soon as you open the bag is wonderful and you could almost taste the Cola flavour there and then!
The next point I observed was how easy the water and powder blended together. This was important to me as there’s nothing worse than getting lumps whilst you’re trying to drink a shake.
For me personally it began to kick-in after about 10 minutes of finishing it. I felt as though I had more energy, but this wasn’t like taking a red bull or pro-plus and having heart palpitations, this was more controlled like my body knew what it was dealing with.
So I took this newfound energy to the gym and honestly felt like I could have stayed there for much longer than usual.
Towards the end of my workouts I normally feel quite lethargic and my body knows when the end is coming, however had it not have been for my full-time job, I could have stayed there all day!
This product isn’t designed to replace your protein shake. It’s simply to give you the boost you need either to take you to the next level with your workouts, or to give you the necessary energy to complete a workout, perhaps after a bad night’s sleep or if you’re used to working out later in the day.
I’m sure there is some real science behind the Workout Fuel formula, and there’s certainly plenty of further detail on the GoNutrition website. What was important to me is that it worked well, despite my initial scepticism and nervousness about potential side effects (there were none).
The trial really took my workout to the next level and helped me to get back on track after my month’s absence from the gym much faster than if I hadn’t bothered.
I also felt that it was well worth taking that extra time to make two shakes in the morning (one being the pre-workout shake, the other the post-workout protein shake).
So I hope you guys found the review useful and it’s given you plenty of ‘food for thought’ with regards to incorporating some sort of pre-workout formula to really maximise your workouts so that you can set higher goals and continue to hit them all.
