Get Your Detective Hat On. We’re Solving The Mystery Of Food!

24/02/2017 by Adam

With a wealth of dietary information available, it’s never been so hard to get healthy eating right. Why? Because of information overload! The trouble, when it comes to making the right choices, is that everyone has different opinions. Some swear off carbs, while others say it’s fat that’s the problem. Some experts say sugar is evil unless it’s the ‘right sugar,’ but people don’t seem to agree on what the right sugar is! So, it’s no surprise we’re struggling to know where we stand. Clean eating has been the trend of the season. Forerunners like Deliciously Ella are convincing us it’s the way forward. But, reports are now emerging that clean eating may not be so clean, after all. It’s no wonder that it can be hard to know if you’re eating right. Here’s a simple checklist that should help you decide once and for all.

WEIGHT

Your weight is one of the best signifiers of how your diet is working. If you’re eating right, you should be maintaining a steady weight. While it’s not healthy to weigh yourself obsessively, it can help to check your weight now and again. That way, you can take note of any changes. And, don’t think you only need to look out for weight gain, either. Weight loss can also be a sign that your diet isn’t quite working. Unless you’re aiming to lose weight, it may be a sign that you’re not getting what you need!

ENERGY LEVELS

A balanced diet should give you all the energy you need to go about your day. If you find your energy levels flagging, it might be another sign that you aren’t eating right. Fresh food is a fantastic way to energize yourself. But, high sugar, fatty options, can leave you feeling lethargic and unmotivated. We all know that bloated feeling just after a huge meal, right? That feeling will last a lot longer if you’re eating wrong. Fresh foods should rarely leave you bloated, no matter how much you eat! Take note of how you feel after a meal. Pay attention, too, to whether you find you lose energy in a short amount of time. The right food should keep you going throughout the day!

KNOWLEDGE

This may seem contradictory. After all, knowledge is what got you into this mess. But, the right kind of knowledge can help you make the simple dietary changes you need. When searching, try to stick to medical fact. Look on health heavy websites that outline food groups without expressing personal opinions. Unbiased views like these are the ones that will serve you the best. Once you know what you need, you’ll be in a better position to install changes.

SPEAK TO A NUTRITIONIST

If you’re still struggling after following these steps, talk with a nutritionist. Once they know what you’re eating, they’ll be able to point out where you’re going wrong. Hearing this from a professional will help you rest easy that you can get it right next time!
