Flashback – “Mr. Chippy”, York

26/08/2014 by Adam

One of the goals I had for Food & Fitness Always was to try and feature the very best food that’s out there that I come across. Let’s face it, there’s probably a lot more average dishes out there so when it comes to something that’s been made to perfection, it really is worth shouting about!

This photo was taken on our weekend away in York in April of this year. Sometimes the best dishes and restaurants are discovered when you’re least expecting them and that’s exactly what happened when we came across Mr. Chippy.

We’d arrived to a rather dark York, with a slight chill in the air. The hotel was beautiful, with excellent facilities however you come to a new town to explore and even with the cold, wetness outside, we decided to go for a long walk to get our bearings of the area.

After about 30 minutes we asked a woman standing underneath a building for some directions regarding where is good to eat around here. She told us of a few places and then mentioned her own restaurant right in front of us, Mr. Chippy. She gave us a ‘15% off’ voucher for lunch and even though lunch had passed, we promised we’d give it a try on another day.

We kept our promise and returned the following day, we certainly were not disappointed! I ordered the ‘supersize 12oz cod’ which had a lovely light, bubbly batter, served with chips and a homemade tartar sauce. It turned out after speaking with the owner that the restaurant had won numerous awards, which I wasn’t surprised about.

I love the exploring part of a city break because you never know what you’ll come across when you get out there (even if it is pouring down!).
