The Fat Of The Matter: Why Is Eating Fat Now Good For You?

Diet and exercise are two words that we’ve heard enough of in the world today. The amount of healthy living approaches and ideas that we are bombarded with through the course of our lives is enough to make us permanently confused. We are constantly told that one thing is bad for you, the next minute it’s good. Like the current craze with a high-fat diet being a way to lose weight. We were told that it was bad for us for so many years, but now with the complete U-turn, it’s making us feel that we cannot trust any information coming out these days. There are so many people saying that the high-fat diet is bad for you, yet the Mediterranean diet is now considered the pinnacle of health. So let’s break down the fat surrounding the issue.

The Mediterranean diet was once considered to be just a healthy intake of fish, olive oil, and lots of vegetables. Now it has expanded to consider meats and cheese, items which were once considered fatty and inflammation causing. It is now considered to be good to eat fats because they make you feel full, and so you will consume fewer carbohydrates. But why is fat now good for you? Well, it’s a matter of the information we’ve been told is not correct, the ins and outs of the high-fat diet are here so you can read the fine detail for yourself. But it’s another in the line of being told about what is good for you and bad are quite the opposite, such as the amount of false superfoods we see online. There are superfoods around, but the amount that is being peddled as superfoods means that we need to do more research into why these things are considered superfoods.

The high-fat diet is now considered a way to protect your heart and your brain. With the amount of low-fat, processed food, there is now a shift to eating natural and unprocessed foodstuffs. This doesn’t mean that we can barbecue our meat until it’s blackened either! A diet high in good fats means a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids, which come from fish, eggs, and nuts, which the Mediterranean diet is high in. The Mediterranean diet is now considered to be one of the healthiest diets in the world, and the standard Western diet of eating lots of carbohydrates for energy is now showing America and the UK low in the results tables of the healthiest countries in the world. Countries like Greece and Italy are high in the league tables due to, you guessed it, the Mediterranean diet.

The reason it would seem that the Western world is lagging behind and suffering a terrible obesity epidemic is because of the poor diet, but it is also because we don’t exercise much. And because we eat so much processed sugar, we feel lethargic, so it’s no surprise really, is it? If we start to eat so we feel healthier, the rest will follow.
