Energize Yourself With These Healthy Tips

Do you ever feel as though you could head straight to bed by midafternoon? Is it getting a bit tricky to keep your eyes open while you’re at your desk? There are so many things which contribute to tiredness, some of which we might not even consider, like being too cold or too warm. But if you’re finding that you’re sleepy every day, it might be worth making a couple of changes to your routine and your environment, and seeing if that helps.

Sit up straight

Slouching in front of a computer for hours can make us feel really drowsy and not in any way clear headed. Sit up straight, pull your shoulders back, and breathe deeply. The increased oxygen to your brain and the improved circulation will make you feel like a whole new person.

Workout in the middle of the day

Instead of working out first thing in the morning or right before bed, try working out during your lunch break instead. Your concentration will take a huge jump in the afternoon, and you’ll be in a better mood overall. Even if you take a few extra minutes for lunch, your productivity will be so much better that you’ll probably see an overall net gain.

Eat regularly

Rather than three large meals a day, break it down into five or six smaller meals. Our stomachs take blood and oxygen away from our brains in order to digest food, which is why we all inevitably fall asleep after Christmas dinner – smaller meals obviously take fewer resources to digest. A change in diet can also help, move to complex carbs like wholegrains for energy that is released slowly throughout the day, and you’ll find your energy remains more level, without the peaks and troughs of other diets.

Go for a sugar-free drink

Keeping hydrated is key to feeling awake and remaining focussed. Keep a sugar-free drink at hand at all times – it doesn’t have to be water, fruit teas can also be great. Sugary drinks are so full of glucose and caffeine that if you rely on them too heavily, you’ll end up crashing.

Have a cup o’ joe

While ten cups of coffee might not be the best idea, studies show that a single cup of coffee when you’re really struggling can be enough to get you through the rest of the day.

Get fresh air

Taking time away from your desk, soaking up the sunlight, and breathing the fresh air is a great way to renew your energy when you’re starting to lag. A quick walk around the block is a bonus way of getting your heart pumping and the oxygen to your brain when you feel yourself getting sleepy.

Have a laugh

Socializing and having a giggle is a surefire way to wake you up, but also to make you feel happier and more content. Studies even show that it helps us sleep at the end of the day.

If you’re feeling a bit sleepy, try to make some of these changes to your day and hopefully you’ll see huge improvements in your energy level. However, if these problems persist it’s best to visit your doctor for advice.
