There are many people out there who claim they “aren’t breakfast people” and you’ll probably find that those people have far less energy than they could have. Ensuring that you eat a filling, healthy breakfast every morning is absolutely essential to remaining fit and healthy.
If you’re trying to slim down, you might be tempted to skip meals and breakfast always seems like the easiest as you only need to hold out until lunchtime. That really is the worst thing you can do as if you don’t start your day the right way, your body will start to cling on to fat as it won’t know when it’s next getting any food.
When you wake and eat breakfast within an hour or so, your metabolism is kick started for the day and you’ll find that you’re full of energy. Breakfast is necessary to fuel our bodies and not doing so can have bad repercussions – you’ll feel lethargic, sluggish, hungry… you’ll struggle to concentrate as well as you could at work. Why? Well, breakfast has been linked by experts to better memory, concentration, good health as well as reducing your risk of getting heart disease, bad cholesterol and diabetes. Surely that’s enough to make anyone reach for food once they’ve got the sleep out their eyes?
These breakfast ideas will keep you feeling energised right up until lunch, meaning you’re far less likely to reach for a mid morning snack. Side note: If you do feel yourself getting peckish, try snacking on these scrumptious but healthy treats.
1. Berry and yoghurt smoothie
If you’re one of those people who hates having to eat first thing then this is definitely an option for you. Not only are smoothies ridiculously tasty but they take literally minutes to prepare and minutes to consume.
2. Keep it simple
If you really do struggle to get food down in the mornings, as some people just can’t stand eating that early, then try opting for some nutritious cereals & oats for a healthy breakfast. Spruce them up with a few berries
3. Quinoa Fruit Salad

Fruit is great to eat first thing as it does contain quite a lot of sugar – exactly what you need for energy. Eating it in the morning means your body will have the entire day to digest it and put the sugar contained to good use. To give the classic bowl of fruit a tasty kick, add a scoop of quinoa for a bit of extra crunch.

This one is seriously delicious and you’ll certainly feel full all morning. It’s nothing too rich and the flavours are pretty tame, so your senses won’t be overwhelmed first thing in the morning if you don’t want them to be. To make sure you’re feeling full to the brim (in the good way), pop two slices of wholemeal bread into the toaster and spread smashed avocado over both slices once they are toasted. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper to bring out the flavour and add a poached egg onto each.
