What Makes a Kick-Ass Home Gym?

Creating a home gym is something that many fitness fanatics are looking to do at some point down the line. This way, you have the option of working out whenever you want and you don’t even have to go through the hassle of leaving the house at all! In this post, we will pose the question: what makes a kick-ass home gym? Hopefully, by the end, you will have a few answers and you will come away feeling inspired to create your own gym.

The Perfect Space

First of all, you will need to have the perfect space from which to work out in the first place. Choose an area where you have some room to manoeuvre and also one where you are less likely to be disturbed (though this may be a challenge in a busy household, of course). If you don’t have a whole room you can dedicate to this project, you may have to get a little more creative with storage space etc. A room with AC is also ideal as it can help to keep you cool, but if you don’t have AC you should place a fan or two in the corner to keep the air circulating.

Equipment that Fits Your Space and Budget

What’s a gym without any equipment? Well, it’s just a room, I suppose! Start off with a few basics like an exercise mat, some dumbbells and a medicine ball. The amount of equipment you invest in to start off with really depends on your budget and the amount of space that you have to work with. If you are looking for a bigger ticket item, read our review on the best vibration machines. You can always improve your gym over time with more equipment.

Decorate to Motivate

The type of decoration in your home gym really depends on what you intend to use it for in the main. You may be looking to create a quiet and serene yoga room, in which case calming colours and simple decoration may be the perfect choice. On the other hand, you may want a high-intensity workout space, in which case you may choose to go for some bright and bold colours and motivational posters.

Think About the Other Extras

There are plenty of other extras which make a great home gym environment. One of them is to have plenty of light – natural light is very motivational, but you should ensure you have plenty of artificial light if not. It is also a nice idea to have some mirrors around you so you can examine your form and technique. As well as this, you may want to have some speakers so you can play some music while you are working out.

Essentially, you don’t need too much to start off your home gym as there are many workouts you can complete without much equipment at all. First of all, you just need some space, basic decoration and a few other simple things and you are all ready to go. Over time, you can build up your collection and create the home gym of your dreams. Happy workouts!
