Yes, Yes, Yes: Amazing Alternatives To The Gym

20/01/2017 by Adam

Chances are you woke up on January 1st and decided that this is the year you’re going to get fit. You may have gone further that this. You may have dusted off your old running shoes, pulled on your lycra gear and walked into your nearest gym with fist clenched ready to show your panting breath and wobbly bits who’s boss; only to realise you really don’t get on with the gym. Well, don’t despair because the gym is not your only option when it comes to getting fit. There are plenty of alternatives, and a lot of them are more fun and more effective than you realise.

1. Take To The Pole

Pole fitness isn’t what you think it is. It’s not all high-heels and skimpy lingerie. Pole fitness is in fact a full body workout that’ll leave you both exhausted and smiling. Pole dancing, pole fitness, pole positioning; anything and everything involving the pole has taken off in recent years and that is because it is a fantastic way to get fit. It’s acrobatic and fun, it strengthens and tones, it’s a full on workout that will improve your cardio, as well as improve your upper-body strength, lower-body strength, core and flexibility.

2. Tai Chi

On paper, this has to be the most attractive form of exercise out there. The way it works is by combining deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. What is not to love about that. But wait, there’s more. Due to the fact it is used as a way of reducing stress, increasing muscle strength, and improving both balance and mobility, it is perfect for everyone. Whether you’re stressed from working too hard or you’re over the age of 65 and looking for an easy way to exercise, try this. You could even buy a tai chi DVD and do it in your own living room.

3. Dirty Dancing

Or just any dancing for that matter, but the idea of pretending you’re dancing with your very own Patrick Swayze (or even pretending you are Patrick Swayze) is a great way to get back in shape. If you have somehow managed to make it this far into your life and not dance, let me describe it for you: incredible, and incredibly active. In fact, just one-hour of dancing will burn over 600 calories. Did I mention it’s one of the most entertaining activities you can do. So why not join a local dance school, or invest in one of the portable speakers you find on https://maxyourhometime.com/portable-speakers/, and start dancing wherever and whenever.

4. The Yoda Of Yoga

Yoga has advanced from downward-facing dog to a new level of challenging. We are of course referring to aerial yoga, the new trend sweeping the world. The way it works is by mixing more traditional yoga techniques with a large silk hammock that is raised off the ground. I know what you’re thinking, relaxing and fun. Yup. This is a fantastic way to relieve stress while working on your core strength as you twist and turn and pose in the air.
