You probably think I’ve got an obsession with chicken wings and to be honest you’re right, when they have this much flavour combined with the ‘dark meat’ of the chicken, they’re succulent, messy and you just want to get stuck in immediately! Personally I’d recommend you eat these on your own, in a quiet place with nobody around. That way you can truly enjoy them with no distractions.
Although this recipe is for two, I wouldn’t recommend cooking them for ‘date night’ or trying to impress someone, unless you’re definitely in the right place in your relationship! They can be enjoyed hot, for a dinner perhaps, or cold for an afternoon lunch, either way they’re incredible.
Serves 2
1 tbsp x Sesame Seeds
10 x Chicken Wings
1 x Garlic Clove (Large) 1/2 x Lemon
2 tbsp x Dark Soy Sauce
2 tbsp x Hoisin Sauce
2 tbsp x Clear Honey
1 tsp x Toasted Sesame Oil
Pinch x Cayenne Pepper
Salt
Pepper
1. Heat the oven to 200C for fan-assisted ovens. Add the sesame seeds to a baking tray and place in the oven for 2-3 minutes, then remove and place in a bowl to cool.
2. Cut the wing tips off with a pair of kitchen shears or scissors and place the wings on a baking tray in a single layer. Add salt and pepper to season along with some olive oil to coat. Cook the wings for 20-25 minutes until the skin has crisped.
3. To make the marinade, peel and crush the garlic and add to a small bowl along with the lemon juice from the half lemon. Add the soy sauce and hoisin sauce along with the sesame oil, honey and cayenne pepper and mix the ingredients well with a teaspoon.
4. Once the timer is up, remove the chicken wings from the oven and, with a pair of tongs, turn them over (this will stop the skins sticking to the tray).
5. Add a good layer of the marinade over the chicken wings on each side to coat evenly. Return the chicken wings to the oven for a further 10 minutes (repeat the spooning process after 5 minutes again)
6. Place the chicken wings on a large serving plate and scatter the toasted sesame seeds over the wings to coat.

Thank you Chi, I do too, I also add it to rice with some miso paste. It’s a very unique taste and it works great with so many dishes 🙂
