Hey guys, I wanted to write a brief post about the importance of recognising the ‘After Summer Holiday Blues’ and how to properly deal with them.
Like everyone, I get motivated by certain things and want to train towards something and towards the Summer it’s often about ensuring I’m at my peak physically for my Summer holiday, and I know that many people do the same. Once that’s over though, what next?
It can hit you very quickly as soon as you return home. The excuses are there in the back of your mind before you’ve even got off the plane. I mean you certainly don’t want to train after a flight, plus the next day you’ve got to unpack, you need to adjust and take it easy or you may just not have the motivation or a proper reason to train.
For me it’s often because I’ve loosened my eating and drinking habits whilst on holiday and by the time I get home, feel as though I’ve lost everything I’ve trained for. Stupid I know but getting your mentality right is just as important as lifting those weights (even more important actually).
It’s why many go through the cycle of ‘getting beach body ready’ every year, yet if they got to that point the year before, what went wrong? Why aren’t they still beach body ready?
The problem to me is that too many people train for the wrong reasons, to look good for others, for the Summer etc. To me, you’ve got to train for your health and overall fitness.
So if you are about to return home or if you’ve already returned home and are in a bit of a slump, know that it’s not too late to get that momentum again. All it takes is a few consecutive gym sessions to get that rhythm back and before you know it, you’re motivated and ready to set and achieve your new goals.
You don’t need to leave it to the month before you go abroad to get in shape. Fitness is 365 days a year and a complete dedication to your health and well-being. So let’s keep it up and get restarted together.
