If you are worried about your child not getting enough exercise or not moving around enough then the good news is there are things you can do. If you want your child to get out and move about, the best way to do this is to do it with them. These days children are far more interested in sitting indoors on their technology, be it an Ipad or their games console. This is okay in moderation but not forever. Listed below are some ideas of what you and your children can do to stay active.
Cycling
If your child enjoys riding a bike then take advantage of this, at least it will be easy to get them out of the house. Take a look at various cycle routes near your home, and try and do a different one each couple of days. Cycling is also great at keeping your limbs loose and joints supple as they are constantly moving. If you or your children have problems with your hips then cycling is the exercise to help with this. Seek out professional advice before undertaking any physical exercise with joint complaints. Alternatively, you could ask a chiropractor to take a look at you to give you a once over.
Swimming
Swimming is wonderful for all the family. You might just want to go for a splash about or a serious bout of lane swimming. Whatever you decide to do, swimming is wonderful for you and your body. This is the one exercise that works all your muscle groups at once, leaving you feeling energized. The great thing about submerging yourself in a pool is that you feel weightless, this is due to swimming making you feel 50% lighter. Check what classes your local pool offers, they might offer a family aqua aerobics class that you can join.
Yoga
Yoga is one of those lovely, calming exercises. The best thing is, you can do it anywhere. All you need to know is some basic moves and you can do it in your garden or even in your local park. If your family are total beginners then you may want to join a class or follow along with videos in the comfort of your own home. Yoga is great for children as it gets them moving about while staying calm and focused on their breathing. Many children also partake in yoga at school within their classes, so if you follow on from this then they will know what to expect.
Boxercise
Another great family exercise is boxercise. As you guessed, it’s boxing incorporated into a workout. Again, you can do this in the comfort of your own home if you have all the necessary equipment. If not, then there are many local clubs and classes you can join that offer family boxercise. It is great for the kids as they have an excuse to let out any excess energy they have built up.
Skipping
One final thing, all children love skipping, they have so much fun and don’t even realize they are exercising. If you get some jump ropes to use in the garden then you can make little competitions to see who can jump the most or who can go the quickest. You could even get long skipping ropes and two of you hold them and fling them around while another jumps it. There are endless possibilities with a skipping rope.
