Sometimes it’s completely obvious when we’re unwell and unhealthy. A cancer diagnosis, a heart attack, the need for dialysis, and other diseases and conditions that affect our day-to-day lives clearly mean we are unhealthy and need to seek treatment. However, there are other ways that our body is able to tell us that something is wrong. They are more subtle, and you need to listen out for them before they become something much more serious. Here are some of the signs that you are unhealthy.
Poor Sleep
When you get into bed at night, the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body is meant to drop away, allowing you to fall asleep and stay asleep so that your body can heal and recharge for the next day. If you find that you are unable to sleep, it may be because your cortisol levels aren’t dropping as they are meant to because you are too stressed. In turn, that means your body doesn’t have the chance to repair itself during the night, so you are more likely to become unwell. If you can’t get to sleep, you can take supplements for energy and focus the next day (in fact, these can be useful even if you are sleeping well) and then make an appointment to see a doctor.
Lost Height
This is easier to spot if you go for an annual checkup, but in some cases, it is quite obvious to those around us so you may find that friends and family are pointing out the fact that you seem shorter than you used to be. This is another sign that something is wrong because losing height could be down to an issue with your bones called osteoporosis. This condition makes bone breakages and a humpback much more likely. To protect your bones, you will need to boost your vitamin intake (especially vitamin D) and get more calcium. Meditating and relaxing can also help.
Your Body Is Apple-Shaped
Being overweight isn’t a good thing for your overall health in general, but if you are more apple-shaped (the weight is carried around your belly area) rather than pear-shaped (the weight sits in the thighs and hips), then you are more at risk of heart disease. The key to fixing this is, as might be expected, to lose weight. More exercise and a diet consisting of more healthy, nutritious foods is the best way to start this process.
Dark Yellow Urine
If your urine is dark yellow, it means one thing: you’re not adequately hydrated. If you were, your urine would be a very light yellow color. If you think you’re hydrating properly yet, you still find that your urine is dark when you take a peek into the bowl, then switch whatever it is you’re drinking to water. Coffee, tea, and alcohol are actually dehydrating and will have the opposite effect to what you want to achieve, and sodas are full of sugar and chemicals. Drink water for the best results, and if you can’t stomach that, try green tea or coconut water.
You Have Cracked Lips
Cracked lips happen when the weather is extremely cold, and that’s quite normal, but if it is happening to you at other times, you might have a vitamin B12 deficiency, which can
