10 FAST FOOD FACTS YOU DID NOT KNOW ABOUT!

14/05/2018 by Adam

We might think we know all about the fast food we eat and about places we go. But it is not true! Here is a list of hidden secrets that I’m sure you were not aware!

  1. FASTFOOD CAN MAKE YOU SAD:
This is strange but true, but consuming fast food can make you depressed. People who eat greasy food; burgers, French fries, hotdogs, etc. are 52% more likely to develop depression and anxiety.
  2. LIVING NEAR A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT CAN INCREASE YOUR WEIGHT:
The strongest influence on fast food consumption is ease of access. If we see it, and we can get it quickly, and cheaper, we definitely will get it. If you live close to a restaurant, or if you have a school near a fast food place, you are likely to get obese by 5.2% (according to a study conducted by University of California, Berkeley).
  3. IT IS NOT CHEAP:
It might look cheap, but in reality, it is not cheap at all! It costs around $30-$35 for a family of five to have dinner at a local McDonald’s. However, on the other side, you can get a pound of turkey for $6, a bag of frozen veggies for around $4, and combine them to make a yummy home-cooked meal for five within $11 max!

  4. RONALD MCDONALD STEALS THE SHOW:
We might hear a lot of shitty talks about McDonald’s, but according to consumer behavior data, McDonalds has been the most visited fast food chain in the entire USA! Subway is on second with 40% Americans visiting!
  5. THEY AIM TO MAKE YOU CRAVE:
McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, In n Out, Burger King, and many other fast food chains use the colors red and yellow in their logos and also inside the restaurants. These have proven to catch customer’s attention and stimulate appetite which results in cravings!
  6. THE FOUNTAIN DRINKS ARE DIRTIER THAN A TOILET:
Ice machines are difficult to clean. An award-winning science project proves that 70% of the time ice from fast food restaurant was dirtier than toilet water! In many cases, the ice was tested positive to have E.coli bacteria which comes from human waste.
  7. THE STYROFOAM COFFEE MAY MAKE YOU DEPRESSED:
Styrofoam cups that most fast food places use can leach styrene. It is the neurotoxin that can cause depression and loss of concentration. Hot beverages draw the plastic compound more efficiently than cold water.
  8. FAST FOOD DOESN’T GO BAD:
An experiment performed in 2010 shows that fast food doesn’t go bad even when it is stored in an airtight jar for five months! This is because the restaurants use a lot of sodium propionate to prevent bacterial and mold growth.
  9. THE AVERAGE BURGER COULD ALSO CONTAIN POOP!:
In recent consumer reports, study shows that beef processed and distributed nationally contained evidence of fecal matter contamination!
  10. INTERNATIONAL CHAINS CONTRIBUTE MASSIVELY TO GLOBAL WARMING:
The Environmental Investigation Agency says that USA based chains like McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks, as well as Indian and British fast food chains are estimated to add nearly 1 million tons of carbon emissions by the year 2020.
