We all know the importance of being healthy, it’s drilled into us day in, day out. While most of us try and lead healthy lives, with so many different health foods on offer, it’s hard to know what the best foods to pack our plates with are.
We know that superfoods are good and junk food is bad but when it comes to eating healthily it can be hard to know which superfoods to eat the most of, can’t it? We know that going to a healthy cafe is a step in the right direction. What a lot of us want to know is out of the thousands of superfoods, which ones should we be eating more of and why?
Below is a list of some of the world’s healthiest foods that we all ought to be eating more of.
Avocado
Avocado has become a firm favourite for a lot of people. It’s creamy, goes amazingly well with eggs, makes fantastic dips, can even be baked into brownies; avocado is a food that the vast majority of us love but are we eating enough of them? If you’re having more than a couple of avocados a week, then yes you’re eating enough of them, if not then start eating more. Avocados are packed full of good fats, they benefit our cardiovascular health, and provide 20 essential health-boosting nutrients. Spread them on toast, mash them into a dip, or bake them into cupcakes, just make sure you’re eating plenty of them.
Banana
Bananas are seen as being one of those boring fruits because they’re a kitchen staple. Everyone has a bowl of bananas in their kitchen, and yet often they sit their end up going brown because like we mentioned above, they’re seen as being boring. However, if you were to research interesting banana facts, you would find that bananas really are an interesting fruit, for a start they’re actually a berry, who knew bananas were berries? Then there’s the fact that they’re packed full of essential nutrients, aid weight loss, and help to keep our hearts healthy. Blend them into a milkshake, bake them in the oven with chocolate sauce, or slice them onto your cereal, just find a way to eat them.
Salmon
Salmon really is super in terms of the health benefits it offers, or at least, wild salmon is. It’s high in essential omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to keep us healthy both physically and mentally. That’s right; salmon can not only benefit your physical health but also your mental health as it can impact your behaviour in a positive way. Serve it on a bed of noodles, toss it into a salad, bake it into a fish pie, it doesn’t matter how you eat it, as long as you’re getting plenty of salmon.
Olive Oil
The people who cook with olive oil really are incredibly healthy. Olive oil beats sunflower and vegetable oil every time in terms of the health benefits that it offers, so if you’re going to cook with anything, it should be olive oil. The fats in olive oil can help to keep your heart healthy, balance insulin levels, and keep your skin and hair healthy. Cook with it, drizzle it over your salad, dip your bread in it – up your olive oil intake.
