7 Sweet Potato Recipes To Try

Sweet potatoes are commonly overlooked as an ingredient. They can be just as versatile as regular potatoes – if not more so due to their added sweetness. Below are just 7 different sweet potato recipes to try.

Sweet potato fries

Sweet potato fries can be a great substitute for regular french fries. While they can be slightly more calorific, they’re also much more nutrient dense (they’re very high in vitamin A), making them a somewhat healthier option.

This recipe features some easy to make sweet potato fries. It’s much healthier to rely on air frying rather than regular frying.

Baked sweet potato

You could also try trading out your regular jacket potato for a baked sweet potato. Sweet potatoes take on the same consistency but with added sweetness. This makes them suitable to have with both savory and sweet fillings.

What are a few great fillings to have with baked sweet potato? Beef chilli is a great savory option. Sour cream and chives also work very well. For a sweet option, try brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. Maple syrup and pecans also make for a delicious sweet option.

Sweet potato chili

This is a popular vegetarian chili option. It incorporates pretty much the same ingredients as regular chili, but with sweet potato used as a substitute for meat.

These extra ingredients include onion, bell pepper, kidney beans, diced tomato and chili powder. Serve with rice and enjoy.

Roast sweet potato

When it comes to roast veggies, why not try throwing in some sweet potatoes? These potatoes have a golden sweetness similar to parsnips when roasted.

Roast sweet potatoes pair well with roast onions and roast peppers. Slice them up, put them on a baking tray, drizzle them with olive oil and then let them cook for 30 minutes.

Sweet potato hash

Sweet potato hash can make a great breakfast dish. This consists of cubed sweet potato, onion, pepper and bacon (you can also throw some egg in there).

The sweet potatoes are cooked via a method of sauteing. This gives them a crisp texture and also helps them to soak up flavors from other ingredients in the frying pan. For a vegan option, take out the bacon and egg.

Mashed sweet potato

You can mash sweet potatoes the same way that you can mash regular potatoes. This can result in a sweeter orange-tinted mash.

To make your mashed sweet potatoes taste amazing, try adding in some butter and green onion. Adding sea salt can help to combat the sweetness, although some people may prefer their mash to be sweet. .

Sweet potato pancakes

You can make a number of sweet dishes using sweet potatoes. One example is sweet potato pancakes.

This recipe is made by mixing flour, sweet potato and eggs together. Ingredients like salt, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger can be added to the mixture. Then fry the pancake mixture in a pan. You then have some delicious sweet potato pancakes – perfect for drizzling with maple syrup.
