Fitness and business share many traits – believe it or not. Let’s consider what it takes to be successful in either of those areas. You have to be dedicated, resolute. You have to never give up, even when it is getting hard.
See – surprisingly, they are linked!
Getting fit is a great undertaking, depending on your previous levels of fitness. No matter what though, it’s going to be a monolithic undertaking of a task and it is going to get difficult at times. Exactly like starting a business!
So, if you combine these two areas and are looking to start a business – how can you build a business out of fitness? There are a number of areas we can look into – it just depends on what aspect of health you can sell.
You could own an organic health store, you could become a personal trainer, you might have the background to ply your trade as an nutritionist. There are plenty of options and depending on your choice, there are different paths to each goal.
Starting a brick and mortar store is the most traditional method, but it’s going to take a lot of work. You’ll have to secure loans, trademark your business and run everything by yourself. There’s no reason for you to be put off – but your idea must offer something truly different or fill a clear gap in the market. It could be a great risk if you try and line yourself up against trusted health stores.
If you’re good at fitness routines, you may want to consider life as a personal trainer. This is probably the best starting point as it simply relies on your own skills as a fitness instructor. There are plenty of business skills you will need to learn before you start, though – you need to be able to deal with customers and market yourself. Sites like PT Distinction can help you get a jump-start on your digital footprint by offering you your own app. You’re going to need to excel at digital skills to attract customers. Showing off on YouTube might work, but you’re going to need to add some variety at some point. This is a growing industry as well – the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that the personal training profession is set to grow by 13 percent until 2022.
If you want to help people nurture their diets, a role as a nutritionist may be a great career path. You’re going to need to get qualified though – you need a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, then you need to pass an exam, then you need to complete a Dietetic Internship Programme, after that you need to earn a RDN credential and finally obtain a state license. Phew. It’s a long list, but if it’s what you want to do – no one can stop you!
Your business in fitness is your business. Just stick to what you know and be honest. Fight hard for what you want to achieve!
